Jesus of Nazareth (c. 4 BC/BCE – c. 30 AD/CE), also known as Jesus Christ, is the central figure of Christianity, which views him as the Messiah foretold in the Old Testament, with most Christian denominations believing him to be the Son of God who was raised from the dead. Islam considers Jesus a prophet and also the Messiah. Several other religions revere him in some way. He is one of the most influential figures in human history. The principal sources of information regarding Jesus' life and teachings are the four canonical gospels, especially the Synoptic Gospels, though some scholars argue such texts as the Gospel of Thomas and the Gospel of the Hebrews are also relevant. Most critical scholars in biblical studies believe that some parts of the New Testament are useful for reconstructing Jesus' life, agreeing that Jesus was a Jew who was regarded as a teacher and healer, that he was baptized by John the Baptist, and was crucified in Jerusalem on the orders of the Roman Prefect of Judaea, Pontius Pilate, on the charge of sedition against the Roman Empire. Aside from these few conclusions, academic debate continues regarding the chronology, the central message of Jesus' preaching, his social class, cultural environment, and religious orientation. Scholars offer competing descriptions of Jesus as the awaited Messiah, as a self-described Messiah, as the leader of an apocalyptic movement, as an itinerant sage, as a charismatic healer, and as the founder of an independent religious movement. Christians predominantly believe that Jesus is the "Son of God" (generally meaning that he is God the Son, the second person in the Trinity) who came to provide salvation and reconciliation with God by his death for their sins. Other Christian beliefs include Jesus' virgin birth, performance of miracles, ascension into Heaven, and a future Second Coming. While the doctrine of the Trinity is accepted by most Christians, a few groups reject the doctrine of the Trinity, wholly or partly, as non-scriptural. In Islam, Jesus (Arabic: عيسى, commonly transliterated as Isa) is considered one of God's important prophets, a bringer of scripture, and a worker of miracles. Jesus is also called "Messiah", but Islam does not teach that he was divine. Islam teaches that Jesus ascended bodily to heaven without experiencing the crucifixion and resurrection, rather than the traditional Christian belief of the death and resurrection of Jesus. GNU Free Documentation License How can I help my neighbors overcome their fear of commitment to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ? Q. There are only two reasons why people don't open their hearts to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The first reason is ignorance, the other is fear of commitment. Since my neighbors confess that they have read the bible several times, I know the only option is to help them with their fear of commitment to our Lord. How can I help them overcome this? But how do you explain the level of prosperity in European countries that have high levels of non-believers? Only 23% of Sweden believes in god, and they have some of the lowest crime levels in the world. Same goes for Norway and Denmark. Not to mention that most of Western Europe is secular. The real problem people not leaving other people alone just cause they don't agree with them. America's neo-conservativism will be it's downfall. Answered by Taylor - Thu Nov 26 06:22:02 2009 What does it really mean to have a relationship with Jesus Christ?
Q. How do you know the difference between whether you have a relationship with Jesus Christ, or if you just are very in tune with yourself and what you need out of life? Or are they essentially one in the same? I am relatively new to Christianity and am trying to get a better understanding - please don't take my question the wrong way. It means to believe in Jesus alone for salvation, it really is that simple :) Salvation is a free gift that happens in a split second when you believe in Jesus! It is impossible to lose or "leave" salvation. The truth about Jesus is that the only way to be saved and to get into heaven and avoid being sent to eternal hell, is by believing in faith alone that Jesus, who is God, died for our sins on the cross as full payment for all our sins, and then Jesus rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). Believe this and you will be in heaven, no matter what! Please pray now: "Jesus, please forgive me of my sins. I believe that You died on the cross for my sins and You rose from the dead. Thank You for eternal life!" You will be in heaven… [cont.] Answered by David - Tue Feb 24 15:27:00 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Jesus Christ" Editing of this article by unregistered or newly registered users is currently disabled.
