Christ is the English term for the Greek Χριστός (Khristós) meaning "the anointed one". It is a translation of the Hebrew מָשִׁיחַ (Māšîaḥ), usually transliterated into English as Messiah.

The word is often misunderstood to be the surname of Jesus due to the numerous mentions of Jesus Christ in the Christian Bible. The word is in fact used as a title, hence its common reciprocal use Christ Jesus, meaning The Anointed One, Jesus. Followers of Jesus became known as Christians because they believed that Jesus was the Christ, or Messiah, prophesied about in the Tanakh (which Christians term the Old Testament). The majority of Jews reject this claim and are still waiting for Christ to come (see Jewish Messiah). Most Christians now wait for the Second Coming of Christ when they believe he will fulfill the rest of the Messianic prophecy.

The area of Christian theology focusing on the identity, life, teachings and works of Jesus, is known as Christology.

How did Romans and others date years before the death of Christ?
Q. We refer to the dates now as 350 B.C. (But that date -before the death of Christ - is in reference to an event that had not occurred at that time.) How did they refer to dates on a yearly basis if at all?

A. The Romans did from the founding of the city of Rome in (I think 753 B.C. The current year is 2759 A.U.C. if I recall correctly). They also did it by who was Consul at the time ("In the second year of Scipio's Consulate") That's how most ancient civilizations did it, "The 4th year of the reign of Tutmose" or the "In the 6th year of the reign of Mursulis". This would be a lot like saying "The World Trade Center was attacked in the ninth month of the first year of Bush's Presedency" or "During the third year of the Lyndon Johnson Administration, Marines were landed at Da Nang in South Vietnam". It works, but you have to remember who was king when and for how long. For most people it works just fine, kings tend to stick around… [cont.]

How do you know when Christ has entered your life?
Q. I would like to know what people did that caused them to feel that Christ has entered their life. I believe in God and Jesus and I want to have this feeling. How do I do this? I have read about those who claim they had a feeling of a large weight being taken away from them or their whole life changed. What do you do to get that feeling?

A. Actually, I did not have any earth-shattering experience to boast about. One moment, I was just there in my room, the next moment I decided that it was time to become a Christian. I just knew I was one, when I had completed praying.
